Island Tycoon

Turn a deserted island into a metropolis — tap to earn, build an economy across six districts, and prestige for permanent power.

Island Tycoon is a free browser idle game. You start with a single fisherman tapping the shore for coins and end up running a skyline of twelve building types, from a Fishing Hut to a Pinnacle Tower. It is built to be picked up for thirty seconds or played for an hour: the island keeps earning coins while you are away, and every prestige run makes the next one faster by handing you gems that boost income for good. The game is made by a solo developer in Finland (more on the About page) and has no purchases of any kind — every gem is earned by playing, and the optional rewarded ads only ever speed things up, never gate progress.

How the game works

Tapping the island earns coins directly, but the real progress comes from buying buildings. Each of the twelve building types belongs to one of six districts — Harbor, Market Square, Downtown, Industrial District, Airport and Uptown — and a district only opens on the map once you buy your first building there. Opening all six is required before you can prestige, so no district can be ignored forever.

Owning more of a building helps, but multipliers matter far more than raw quantity. Every building type gets automatic milestone multipliers at 25, 50, 100, 200, 300 and 400 owned, and the Upgrades tab sells a separate ×2 for each type at 1, 10, 25, 50 and 100 owned. Buying those upgrades as soon as you can afford them is almost always worth more than the next few buildings.

Every few minutes a golden gull flies across the screen; tapping it triggers one of five random effects, from a one-off coin payout to a short burst where every tap is worth 777 times as much. Landmarks are one-off purchases that add a permanent bonus for the current run, and achievements — most of which survive a prestige — add small permanent bonuses of their own.

Once your island is built out, you can prestige: reset coins, buildings, upgrades and landmarks in exchange for gems, which are spent on permanent upgrades or simply held for a passive income bonus. The game also keeps earning while closed (offline earnings, capped and shown as a summary when you return), and a 7-day daily bonus cycle rewards you for coming back. None of this requires an account — progress is saved in your browser, with an optional Google sign-in if you want to continue on a second device.

The full mechanics, exact numbers and every upgrade are written out in the How to Play guide. For the raw numbers behind every one of the 12 buildings, see the Buildings reference; for a purchase order, prestige timing and offline-earnings math, see the Strategy guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is Island Tycoon free to play?

Yes, fully. There are no purchases of any kind. A couple of places let you optionally watch a rewarded ad to speed things up, but skipping the ad never blocks the base reward.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Your save lives in your browser automatically. Signing in with Google is entirely optional and only useful if you want to continue the same island on a second device — see the privacy policy for exactly what that stores.

What happens to my progress if I close the game?

Nothing is lost. The island keeps producing coins while closed, at reduced efficiency and up to a cap, and you get a summary of what accumulated when you come back.

Can I install it on my phone?

Yes — Island Tycoon is a Progressive Web App. Open it in a mobile browser and use "Add to Home Screen" (or the install prompt the game shows) to get an app-like icon that also works offline.

What is "prestige" and why would I reset my progress?

Prestige resets your current run — coins, buildings, upgrades and landmarks — in exchange for gems, which make every future run faster. Achievements and gem-shop purchases are never lost. It's explained in full, formula included, in the How to Play guide.

Does the game show ads?

Only ones you start yourself, and only in two optional spots: doubling offline earnings or doubling the daily bonus. The game never shows an ad you didn't ask for.

I found a bug or have feedback — who do I tell?

Email topidowork@gmail.com, or see the Contact page for what's worth writing in about. It's a solo project, but every report gets read.

Prestige exploit and Auto-Tapper fixes

21 August 2026

Starting Capital could hand out enough coins in the late game to open every district right after a prestige, allowing an instant repeat prestige — starting coins are now capped. The Auto-Tapper no longer plays the tap sound five times a second or counts towards tap-based achievements.

Own domain, privacy policy and rewarded ads

21 August 2026

The game moved to playislandtycoon.com, added optional rewarded ads for doubling offline earnings or the daily bonus, and published a privacy policy alongside the How to Play guide and this changelog.
