Island Tycoon is a solo project. I'm Topi Kalermo, a developer in Finland, working under the sole-trader registration Kalermo Topi Aaro (Y-tunnus 3171387-1). There's no studio and no team behind it. One person writes the code, tunes the balance, draws the buildings into place, and reads every bug report that comes in.
I like idle games, but a lot of them are built around wearing the player down until a purchase feels necessary: energy timers, ad walls, currencies that only make sense once you've spent real money. Island Tycoon is an attempt at the opposite, an idle game that's actually finished and actually free, where the numbers are tuned by hand to feel good to grow, and where watching an ad is something you choose to do for a boost, never something the game makes you do.
There is nothing to buy. Every gem, building and upgrade is earned by playing.
Island Tycoon runs entirely in your browser as a static web app. There's no installer beyond the optional "Add to Home Screen" prompt, and no account is needed to play. It's built with React and TypeScript, hosted on Cloudflare, and the buildings and terrain are isometric sprites rendered from Kenney.nl's CC0 asset packs. The economy driving the game, costs, growth curves and milestone multipliers, lives in a single balance file that gets tuned and re-tuned by actually playing it, not lifted from a formula template.
Current work is on written game content: a full building-by-building breakdown of the numbers and a proper strategy guide for prestige timing and gem spending, plus expanding the leaderboard with seasonal resets. If there's something you'd like to see, get in touch.
